“Our nation is a nation with a very kind heart. We are kind-hearted. Right? That is the nature of our nation,” Prabowo explained to the assembled crowd.

The President shared personal examples of Indonesian hospitality that transcend material circumstances. He recalled how families would welcome visitors regardless of their own financial situation. Even without coffee or sugar at home, Indonesians would find ways to honor their guests. In some cases, they would borrow from neighboring households to ensure proper reception.

“If a guest comes to our house, even if we don’t have drinks, no coffee, no sugar, we still welcome them. If necessary, we can go to our neighbor, borrow some sugar and coffee,” he recounted.

However, Prabowo cautioned that not all visitors arrive with good intentions. While Indonesians naturally embrace guests from abroad, some foreign parties have taken advantage of this welcoming culture. He described instances where visitors claimed to seek trade opportunities but ultimately extracted resources without fair exchange.

“We like guests. We respect guests. It’s just that sometimes guests lack discretion. They were not invited, came here, said they wanted to trade, and ended up looting,” the President stated clearly.

The former Defense Minister chose to speak openly during his address. He even sought permission from Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar to deliver his candid observations. This gesture demonstrated his respect for religious leadership while emphasizing the importance of honest communication.

“Minister of Religion, can I speak candidly? Can I? Do you want me to speak candidly or not?” Prabowo asked before continuing.
