Russian Strikes Hit Multiple Regions in Ukraine

The strikes targeted both civilian infrastructure and military facilities, according to reports from DW. In the southern port city of Odesa, two fatalities were recorded alongside ten wounded individuals, including a woman who was walking in a park with her children and managed to survive the attack. Regional military administration head Oleh Kiper provided details about the incident.

Meanwhile, in the nearby port city of Mykolaiv, regional prosecutors reported that a Russian drone attack caused damage to three civilian-flagged vessels. Two Ukrainian civilians aboard one of the vessels lost their lives in the incident. In the Zaporizhzhia region to the southeast, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that two people were killed and five more were injured during a Russian strike. Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that the strikes on Odesa targeted port infrastructure used by the Ukrainian military as well as a drone production facility. Ukrainian sources did not report any damage to port facilities in Odesa.

Widespread Damage Across Ukrainian Territory

In the northeastern region of Kharkiv, three people were injured by Russian shelling. Operations at a gas production facility were subsequently suspended after a Russian drone attack, according to Ukrainian oil and gas company Naftogaz. The company added that it was not yet possible to determine the extent or scale of the damage. In neighboring Sumy region, Russia fired 15 glide bombs that damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, injuring one person, Zelenskyy said.

On the naval front, Robert Brovdi, the head of Ukraine’s drone forces, reported that several Russian ships were hit in the Black Sea. The targets included nine cargo vessels, a tanker, a gas transport ship, and a tugboat. “The fleet hunt continues,” Brovdi said in a statement on Telegram. He explained that the strikes aim to disable the ships and disrupt the transport of oil, fuel, and cargo shipments used to circumvent sanctions. “It is not the goal to pollute the waters with oil slicks, so no holes in the hulls,” Brovdi added.

Brovdi noted that since July 6, 159 Russian vessels have been attacked in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, though these numbers could not be independently verified. Zelenskyy also announced on X that Ukraine destroyed a strategic Tu-95 aircraft parked at Russia’s Engels airbase, located approximately 800 kilometers (497 miles) from the Ukrainian border. The aircraft had been used for missile strikes on Ukraine. In total, Russia deployed more than 130 drones and eight missiles overnight, Zelenskyy added.

“We are defending ourselves justly and proactively,” Zelenskyy said in his statement. The coordinated attacks demonstrated Russia’s continued efforts to target Ukrainian infrastructure while Ukraine simultaneously expanded its counter-strike capabilities against Russian naval assets in the Black Sea region.
