President Prabowo Subianto installed Suahasil as finance minister on September 14, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The appointment was set out in Presidential Decree No. 97P/2026, covering the dismissal and appointment of the finance minister for the remainder of the 2024–2029 Cabinet term.

Prabowo signed the decree on the same date as the inauguration. The change placed Suahasil at the head of a ministry responsible for managing state finances and carrying out fiscal policy during the remaining years of the current cabinet.
