The summit is scheduled to take place in India on September 12 and 13. It marks Prabowo’s second appearance at a BRICS leaders’ meeting since Indonesia became a full member of the grouping in January 2025.

Prabowo previously represented Indonesia at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July 2025. The New Delhi meeting gives Indonesia another opportunity to take part in discussions involving the organization’s expanding role in international economic and political cooperation.

Indonesia’s role as a full BRICS member

Indonesia’s attendance reflects its effort to remain actively involved in multilateral forums while promoting the interests and participation of developing countries. Those issues carry broad significance for emerging economies, where access to stable energy supplies, reliable food systems, financing for national development, and open trading opportunities can shape long-term growth. Leaders gathering in New Delhi are expected to consider ways to deepen coordination across those sectors.

Cabinet ministers accompany the president

Prabowo was joined by several members of the Red and White Cabinet for the visit. The delegation includes Foreign Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstream Industry Minister Rosan Roeslani, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The presence of ministers with responsibilities spanning diplomacy, investment, industrial development, research, and government administration underlines the range of issues connected to the BRICS agenda. Talks on trade, financing, energy, and development can involve both foreign-policy priorities and domestic economic planning.

Indonesia’s participation also comes less than two years after it entered BRICS as a full member. The country’s first attendance at the summit in Brazil in 2025 established its presence in the forum, while the meeting in India continues that engagement at the leaders’ level.

Welcome in New Delhi

Indian officials greeted Prabowo upon his arrival at Air Force Station Palam. The welcoming party included Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, India’s Minister of State for Coal and Mining Affairs; Brigadier Rishabh Mittal, the commanding officer of Air Force Station Palam; and Prashant Agrawal, Additional Secretary for South at India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in India were also present as the Indonesian delegation arrived. Prabowo received a ceremonial welcome after descending from the aircraft, including an honor guard and Indian cultural performances featuring traditional dances.

The visit places Indonesia at the center of two days of summit diplomacy in New Delhi. With discussions set to address cooperation in food, energy, development financing, and trade, Prabowo’s participation will contribute to Indonesia’s continued engagement in an increasingly prominent forum for developing countries.
